CRISPR-based gene replacement reveals evolutionarily conserved axon guidance functions of Drosophila Robo3 and Tribolium Robo2/3

The Evans lab published our first CRISPR paper today; we used the technique to compare the axon guidance roles of Drosophila Robo3 and its ortholog from the flour beetle Tribolium castaneum, TcRobo2/3. Check it out at EvoDevo!

Abigail and Gina recognized at BISC undergraduate awards reception

Abigail Carranza and Gina Hauptman were recognized by the Department of Biological Sciences at an undergraduate awards reception today. Abigail has received the Paul and Beth Gaylo Scholarship from BISC, and Gina has received the Fulbright College Presidential Scholarship. Congratulations Abigail and Gina!

Gina and Haley recognized at State and National Awards reception

Gina Hauptman and Haley Brown were recognized by the University of Arkansas at the 2017 State and National Awards Reception today. Gina was recognized for her First Place finish in the Biology oral presentations at the 2016 INBRE conference, and Haley was recognized for receiving a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Honorable Mention. Well done Gina and Haley!

NWARSEF 2017

Today was the 2017 Northwest Arkansas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NWARSEF), held once again on the University of Arkansas campus here in Fayetteville. Tim and LaFreda served as judges and met the future generation of Arkansas scientists and engineers as they presented their science fair projects. We hope to see all of you again soon as U of A college students!

CEMB MS student Ben Wadsworth has joined the Evans lab as our newest graduate student. Ben will be examining the evolutionary conservation of midline attractive signaling by the Frazzled axon guidance receptor in insects.
