Noted worm enthusiast and all-around swell guy Dr. Brian Ackley visited us from the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas to share his lab's work on synapse formation in the world's greatest animal model, C. elegans, in a seminar delivered to the Dept of Biological Sciences.

Undergraduate researcher Ali Stone is the newest member of the Evans lab. Ali's project will use CRISPR-based gene modification approaches to study the function of axon guidance genes in the Tribolium embryonic CNS.

Haley Brown, M.S.

Haley Brown successfully defended her Master's thesis today, titled "In vivo structure-function analysis of Drosophila Robo1, an axon guidance receptor critical for midline repulsive signaling in the embryonic central nervous system." Haley continues her tradition of lab firsts with this, the lab's first graduate thesis defense. Congratulations Haley!

Fly meeting 2018 (April 11-15, 2018)

Tim, LaFreda, Haley, Ben, and Alli traveled to Philadelphia, PA for the 59th Annual Drosophila Research Conference. A great meeting for catching up with the latest in fruit fly research, seeing old friends and colleagues, and making new connections in the fly community. Plus, cheesesteaks!
